Project: Freestanding Illuminated Cabinet
If you drive by any number of businesses in your city you will often notice large, cabinet-like signs in front of buildings with business logos on them or tenet panels for the various businesses in one complex. These are called freestanding illuminated cabinet signs. Freestanding signs are typically made of aluminum with fluorescent lamps. Once constructed, the aluminum can have a stucco type finish for a more luxurious look, or to appear more cohesive to the building it is accompanying. It can also be painted in any color. Freestanding illuminated signs usually have an acrylic or polycarbonate face, and can have a number of cut or printed vinyl graphics. These signs are often used for tenet panels and are a more cost effective solution to illuminated channel letters that go directly onto a building face.
City Signs was recently contacted by Western Air Supply in San Jose, CA. They needed a new sign for the front of their office building. Working with the customer, we determined the best solution for their company was a freestanding illuminated sign cabinet. As seen in the photograph above, their cabinet is constructed entirely of aluminum with a base that was treated with a Texcoat finish which gives the sign a stucco look. We used acrylic faces and printed cut vinyl graphics to match the company’s logo. This turned out to be a great, cost effective solution as well as an ideal sign for Western Air Supply as it can now be seen from street view.
